This is some unexpected news, and he wasn't very old at all. Enjoyed his Wheel of Time writing, but personally I stopped reading in the middle of the sixth book. That's when I got the sense that he wasn't trying to advance the story anymore, and was just trying to milk the series for all he could. Still, I'd say that at least one of these books is worth your while, if you're looking for some Lord of the Rings-styled fantasy. I really liked the Dreamwalker sub-stories.

Personally I didn't like his writing style, it was far too erratic.

David Eddings will always get my vote.

I really liked the Wheel of time books. I liked the continuing story.....too many trilogys out there. I have been looking forward to his new books since i started reading in like 5th grade, and getting the new books as soon as they came out. it was always like a new Christmas for me

he still had a lot of stuff left to tell in that series, a huge loss for me
gonna miss his books

I really liked them as well, was really looking forward to the new books. I did not start in 5th grade though, otherwise it would be a really big bummer. I started reading them last year as I like that style of writing and wanted something new to read.

Damn. I was hoping he would be able to finish The Wheel of Time series. That is one of my favorite series out there. Now the story isn't ever going to be finished

THAT'S IT!!! YOU AND ME WILL NEVER BE BFF.

On another note, I'll keep an eye out for David Eddings, never heard of him before, and there's a bookstore I hang around a lot.

As for the other post about not knowing how this story will end...From what I remember, all previous men who could channel went mad, wiped out the world, etc. Also, weren't there prophecies from the various races? Like I said, I stopped reading because I thought the story was all laid out already, then he got stuck in Nynaeve tugging her braid, Perrin being sullen, etc. so maybe there were other developments. Feel free to edify me.

It is so sad when such a talented person dies young... Now we will never see the end of the story.

@Father: There was a prophecy that he would fight the dark lord but it never said if he would die or not. Also in 11 books there were more than a few story developments.

David Eddings is ok, Ive read all his series, and though i do enjoy them and they keep you entertained they unfortuntly are very 'samey' once you've read the belgariad thats it you know how each story will go. Its Eddings writing style. IMO read them but dont read all 4 series in a row like i did...overkill

Recommendation has to be R A Salvatore

RIP RJ
one of the best fantasy series i've ever read, and helped shape the person i am today.
on a brighter note after his passingg, it has been confermed(by his wife) that RJ had all the main plot set up and has passed it all on to his wife and editor. These two people will decide if someone else will take the notes and complete the series in RJs name
